Sherri’s Skin Care Favorites for Oily, Acne Prone Skin
This post has been in the works for months only because I’ve been trying to perfect my skincare routine however, it’s still a work in progress. For some back story, my skin has always been ultra sensitive for as long as I can remember. After college my skin was the clearest it has ever been which lead me to believe I was in the clear for about 4 years. Then in April 2017 I had the worst breakout I’ve ever had. I started doing my research and found a few products that helped clear up my skin. Due to stress and newly developed allergies, my skin began flaring up again in September and I’ve developed cystic acne. Now, I’m back to slowly getting my skin under control.
Here are a few of my favorite skin care products that have been getting my life together:
Ponds Cold Cream Cleanser - I know, this is super old school but I've noticed that my skin has been sensitive to makeup remover wipes lately. I gently rub a small amount of the cream over my face and use a cotton pad to wipe it away. My face has felt a lot less irritated since this switch.
Raw African Black Soap - I’ve tried so many different facial cleansers and this is the only soap that has actually dried out pimples and helped even my skin tone. Please be sure to use the pure African Black Soap and not the artificially manufactured stuff (ehh em Shea Moisture smh) I use this Soap both morning and night. *If my breakout is extremely bad I use unscented antibacterial hand soap to double cleanse my face*
Mario Badescu Facial Sray wit Aloe, Cucumber, and Green Tea - Any inflammation or burning I had goes away after using this toner. I use this both morning and night on a daily basis.
Aloe Gel - Again, another product that soothes my skin and heals breakouts. Aloe is also great for fading scars. I use this both morning and night after toning my face.
The Ordinary Glycolic Toner - Glycolic acid is used to fade scars, shrink pores, and even out skins texture and tone all together. I use this every other night, sometimes skipping a night depending on how sensitive my skin feels that day.
The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution, 10-Minute Exfoliating Facial - This is basically a light at home chemical peel. By the next day dried breakouts are literally peeling off my face (I know gross) leaving my skin so smooth and refreshed. I only use this at night once a week for 10 minutes but only if I haven't exfoliated my skin already that week. Be careful because this stuff is potent!
I still haven't found a favorite moisturizer or sun screen, but be on the look out for when I do along with other faves I come across.
