Our Holy Grail Natural Hair Products
Hair Type: Type 4a/b low porosity
Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Restorative Conditioner – Ever since I realized my hair actually HATES silicones, this conditioner has really saved my hair. The product really penetrates my strands leaving them buttery soft, manageable, and shiny. I’m not a huge fan of the smell but it’s the best conditioner I’ve tried thus far.
Giovanni Direct Leave-In – This is an old favorite within the natural hair community on YouTube. It’s an extremely light weight water based leave-in conditioner with lots of slip making the detangling process so much easier. I even put some in my spray bottle with water to refresh my hair through out the week. After use, my hair feels super moisturized and ready for my next hair style.
Jamaican Black Castor Oil – Ashley & I have been swearing by this stuff since we were little kids sitting in between our moms’ legs getting our scalps snatched up >_< I’ve always used JBCO periodically, added into my deep conditioner, but after literally getting my edges snatched during a traumatic African hair braiding experience, I incorporated it into more of my hair care routine. Scalp massages with JBCO promote rapid hair growth and strong strands. My edges are flourishing and even using it oon my eyebrows at night before bed have made them thicker. Seriously a miracle oil.
Bragg’s Organic Apple Cider Vinegar – I know, Apple Cider Vinegar?! Yes, I have replaced my shampoo with ACV rinses…let me explain. As you know, I’m a huge fan of Hey Fran Hey and a few years ago she did a video on clarifying the scalp and hair with Apple Cider Vinegar. One part ACV to three parts water in a spray bottle has really been a total game changer for me. Using this rinse instead of shampoo has softened my hair, made my curls truly pop, has helped my itchy flaky scalp tremendously, and has left my hair & scalp feeling super clean without feeling dry and stripped. Regular ACV can work as well but the organic, unfiltered kind is packed with nutrients and in my opinion smells a bit better. Disclaimer: Please do your research and adjust your ACV rinse method according to your hair type/needs.
Hair Type: 3b/c high porosity
Extra Virgin Coconut Oil– Coconut oil saves lives! Dry hair, coconut oil. Dry skin, coconut oil. Bae acting up, coconut oil. On a serious note coconut oil is definitely a favorite of mine and Sherri’s. I’m a really lazy natural but I put my hair through a lot at the same time. I straighten my hair more often than I should and I’ve dyed my hair five times, and bleached once since going natural (BC’ed in 2010). Coconut has saved my hair each time. Whenever my hair starts to feel dry I apply coconut oil and it feels like everything all over again.
Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In Conditioning Repair Cream– This cantu leave-in has been a staple of mine since my transitioning days. It leaves my hair feeling soft and moisturized. There have been a few times in my natural hair journey when I’ve strayed and used other leave-ins, like the Giovanni Sherri loves so much, but I always end up going back to that good ol’ Cantu.
Eco Styler Gel– Like coconut oil and the Cantu Leave-in, Eco Styler gel has been one of my holy grails since 2010. It is the only styler that I’ve used on a consistent basis. This gel leaves my wash and go’s defined and my edges laid when doing a low bun. I can also be somewhat heavy handed when using this gel, but my hair NEVER flakes.
TGIN Honey Miracle Hair Mask– I could literally write an essay on this hair mask, but I won’t. The love I have for this deep conditioner is so real. I tried the TGIN Honey Miracle Hair Mask last December and I refuse to use anything else. My hair has never felt softer after deep conditioning, and detangling is a breeze. This mask also smells amazing which is the icing on top of an already sweet cake!
